The Dance of Fire

‘So many times have I looked
Into the flaring of embers.
So many woman dancing,
And angry men appear,
But all of us remembers
The stew forever cooked.

So many times have I looked
Into the flaring of embers.
So many dancing figures
And happy, cheering folk.
I see them in their tempers,
But also when they’re crooked.

So many times have I looked
Into the flaring fires.
I see the flames a dancing
And joyful they do seem.
I see the lonely desires
Of men and of mocked.

So many times I admire
The flaring of the flames.
The dancing and the riddles
The jigs and the trots.
So much have I laid claims
To the dance of fire.’ – Kester Rose
